No one is quite sure. Some say that it began when some Dominican villagers had a victory party, and, because the returning hero of the revolution had a wounded leg, all the people limped as they danced, dragging one foot as the hero did. Many people say that it began when slaves, who were chained together as they cut the sugar cane, had to drag one of their legs as they worked to the beat of drumming. Great news on November 3rd!
